End of Summer Mini-Camps!

Current students entering PreK4-7th Grade and their siblings are welcome to attend. There are options each day between 8-12 and 12:30-2. Please note that there is a 30 minute lunch break from 12-12:30 for students spending the day. Options are listed by individual weeks and grouping of grade levels.

Week 1: July 22-26

Options for Rising PK4-K students

8am-12pm Knights Training Camp

This camp will be grouped according to age. The boys will spend 75 minutes in three rotations, including Cooking and Art, METALS, Story Time, and Movement. We will also have snowball breaks and dance parties throughout the week! Our faculty and staff are dedicated to providing a meaningful experience full of fun, friendship, and teamwork for the boys.

12:30-2pm Soccer Shots

Soccer Shots is an engaging children’s soccer program with a focus on character development. We positively impact children’s lives on and off the field through our best-in-class coaching, communication and curriculum.

12:30-2pm Knights Of The Round Table- A Reading And Writing Camp

Rising PK4 and K Students will be introduced to capital letter formation and Fundations principles.  Activities will target sound/letter association, rhyming, and pre-literacy tasks. Rising K students will be introduced lower case letter formation and Fundations paper.  Activities will target review of sound/letter associations and rhyming as well as an introduction to word family decoding strategies and word, syllable and sound manipulation.

Stuart Hall is excited to offer a collaborative literacy and writing program designed specifically for rising students at Stuart Hall, during mini camp. Occupational Therapist, Kimberly Bradley, with Kim4Kids, and Speech-Language Pathologist, Lesley Brown, with NOLA Speech and Language have designed a Fundations based literacy and writing program available to Stuart Hall students in grades PK 4- 2nd.

Each group of students will receive 45 minutes of each discipline targeting the techniques from Wilson Fundations.

  • Phonemic awareness

  • Phonics/word study

  • High frequency word study

  • Reading fluency

  • Vocabulary

  • Comprehension strategies

  • Handwriting/Letter formation

  • Spelling

Kimberly Bradley has been providing OT services at S/H for 18 years and is trained in Fundations. This experience has allowed her to develop a Handwriting Helpers program specifically designed for the rising students at Stuart Hall. Kim4Kids will provide an occupational therapist for multi sensory handwriting instruction.

Lesley Brown, also trained in Fundations and serving Stuart Hall students for over 10 years, provides a hands on approach to literacy enrichment and treatment.  Enhancing those skills at grade level and providing intervention for struggling readers.

 

Options for Rising 1st-2nd students

We will also have snowball breaks and dance parties throughout the week! Our faculty and staff are dedicated to providing a meaningful experience full of fun, friendship, and teamwork for the boys.

Options for Rising 5th students

10am-12 5th Grade Math Jumpstart

Stop the “summer slide” and get a jumpstart to 5th grade math! This session will help prepare students for the upcoming school year by ensuring that all foundational skills have been mastered while introducing new content that will be covered during the 1st trimester. Student SAT data will used to drive individualized instruction. In addition, students will become familiar with the Middle School Math series to help transition from enVision Math to Prentice Hall.

Activities will target review of sound/letter associations, word family decoding and sight word recognition as well as an introduction to grade level sentence formulation and vocabulary enhancement.

Options for Rising 4th Grade students

Want your son to feel like he has a head start this school year? Jump Start camp is a great way to get your son back in the swing of things. We will be reviewing The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, begin working on our first reading strategy, playing spelling games with our first set of words and even learning our first vocabulary words. Become acclimated to the 4th grade classroom rules and procedures. Learn study skills while reviewing to get ready for the 4th Grade!

The Summer Learning Lab covers study skills and learning strategies needed for academic success. Students will learn organizational skills, time management, long-term memory techniques, note-taking skills, and test-taking strategies. Active listening strategies and determining learning styles will also be covered. Parents are encouraged to attend with their child(ren).
