Matthew Williard '01 Middle School Honor Ceremony Address
Stuart Hall alumnus Matthew Willard ’01, a member of the School’s Board of Trustees and current Vice President of the New Orleans City Council, delivered the address at the Middle School Honors Ceremony. After graduating from Stuart Hall, Willard attended Jesuit High School and earned a degree in marketing from the University of New Orleans. A marketing and communications professional, he previously served six years in the Louisiana House of Representatives, where he championed legislation focused on housing, workforce development, healthcare affordability, and STEM education. His public service and leadership have earned him numerous honors, including Legislator of the Year from the Alliance for Good Government and recognition as one of Gambit’s 40 Under 40.
In his address, alumnus Matthew Willard ’01 reflected on his own journey as a new sixth-grade student at Stuart Hall, sharing how the guidance of dedicated teachers and mentors helped him overcome self-doubt, develop confidence, and discover his potential. He encouraged students to embrace challenges, work hard, ask for help when needed, and support one another as they prepare for high school and beyond. Emphasizing that greatness is achieved through perseverance, faith, and strong relationships, Willard reminded students that the lessons, values, and friendships formed at Stuart Hall can shape their lives long after graduation.
