S/H Observes Hyacinth Day

On Monday, May 8, 2023, Stuart Hall observed Hyacinth Day in the Van Vrancken Chapel, remembering Janet Erskine Stuart’s call to serve God more than 140 years ago. Blue Hyacinth Day is an opportunity to reflect upon Mother Stuart’s vocation and to consider our own, as well.

Brothers Joseph, Samuel, and August Durham carried the hyacinths forward in the Hyacinth Day Chapel procession.

Every May 6th after that first experience in 1882, Mother Stuart quietly celebrated that event in the garden and renewed her sense of vocation and purpose.

Unlike Mother Stuart, most of us are not able to pinpoint an exact moment when “The Word of the Lord” came to us. Yet Janet Erskine Stuart continues to serve as a wonderful example to all of us in the Stuart Hall community. May we each be inspired by her as she did not idly wait for the Word of God, but tended to her soul -- reading, praying and discerning -- ready to respond to God’s call when it came.
